Yangtze River Rafting
Only a few men have dared to venture into this unexplored nature’s wonder. The 10,000 feet deep great Bend of Yangtze is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and less than a third in wideness. As far as the river flow is concerned, it is six times higher. It’s tough even to imagine the raw force, which this river unleashes. The Upper Yangtze in Tibet also offers equal opportunities in adventure with its beaches, dunes, snow and ancient monasteries in Pinyon-Juniper forests.
The Tiger Leaping Gorge has to be trekked around before you begin this awesome rendezvous. Gigantic cataracts between two mile high walls have to be tackled along with waves reaching over 25 feet high. Each day brings in a medley of huge and small rapids (Class III-V). The portion near exit contains over eight continuous rapids including the electrifying “Surprise”. Sometimes, even a careful maneuver won’t save you from getting drenched in the cold waters of the Yangtze.
The surroundings are simply amazing. Towering mountains with terraced fields and ancient stone villages with inexplicable histories mystify the rafting trip to the Yangtze. Exploration of cultures like the Naxi culture is an experience, which only a few lucky people have.
The typical Yangtze season runs from February-March and from August-October. Fewer than 150 people have ever rafted on the Yangtze. So, what are you waiting for? This virgin landscape awaits you!
