The Tekeze River is recognized as the prime river of Ethiopia, which flows along the westernmost border of the country. A section of the river again travels through Eritrea. Interestingly, in Eritrea, eastern Sudan and western Ethiopia, the Tekeze River is summoned as the Setit River.
The river has its source in the central highlands of Ethiopia, close to Mount Qachen from where it heads off towards the west of Ethiopia. Towards the end of its course, the waterway enters the northeastern part of Sudan and joins the Atbarah River. In fact, it is also said that the Tekeze River is possibly the upper course of the Atbarah River.
