Breede River, South Africa, Whitewater Rafting

The Breede River in South Africa is located in the Western Cape Province. Acclaimed to posses a wide river base, the name ‘Breede’ in Dutch is the other word for ‘wide’. The river has its source in the Skurweberge mountain range, and finally, after covering a long way, it drains into the Indian Ocean near Witsand.  

The Breede River, flowing through Cape Town, offers mild rapids all year round. Comprising of rapids of Class III, the river’s foaming torrents offer best rafting conditions to novice rafters. As the river meanders through the deep valleys and the snow-capped mountains, the water body brings in awesome whitewaters, promising utmost entertainment to all the rafters!

A tranquil river with a couple of mild rapids, the Breede River is the perfect example of a unique adventure locale. The waterway is considered ideal for families, school and corporate trips. A rafting voyage on the river usually starts off near Worchester, as the river slides through the fertile fruit- and wine-producing gorges. While the river moves near Swellendam, the water body brings in small rapids, which the rafters love to paddle through!  

What’s more, the rafting adventure on the Breede River offers a magnificent view of the lush greenery and abundant wildlife by the riverside. You can also come across a variety of birds while passing through the river, making your journey even more colorful!   

Now, as you decide to go for a short weekend trip and spend some exciting moments amidst the most breathtaking natural beauties, you can plan an excursion down the Breede River. Other than going on a rafting trip, you can make arrangement for a camping expedition as well. Here is a full description of our Breede River Trips

Overnighter:

Day1: We meet at a pre- arranged point and time where we will have a briefing on the day’s activities and a short safety speech. The day starts with a relaxing paddle for 3 - 4 hours on the beautiful Breede River, lunch is served on a picnic style basis along the river and we have time to enjoy the scenic Hex River Mountains that guard over this fertile valley. This spectacular inflatable canoe trip is not a race and is paced by you.

After completing our canoeing adventure, we head to Bergsig wine estate where we will be able to sample the excellent wines of the Breede River Valley. We will then depart for our overnight camp, a choice of riverside camp, dorm accommodation or mountain sanctuary camp. We will have a well deserved shower and a few cold drinks, before the guides serve us with a delicious meal prepared on an open fire.

Day 2: We have breakfast before departing home.  

Included: Rafting, equipment, guides, in trip transport, wine tasting, 3 meals and your choice of accommodation. 

 Optional extra: 

After having a full fry-up breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, beans and fried tomatoes we head for the Bainskloof reserve where we have a leisurely hike up to the waterfalls and a well deserved swim in the refreshing mountain water.

Departure dates:

The African Rafting Company offer departures for the Breede River day- and overnight trips on Wednesday and Saturday of every week. The minimum group size is 6 people. If you have a specific date in mind that does not fall on a Wednesday or Saturday, please feel free to contact us and we will try to accommodate you.

Prices: 

Day trip:          

 4 Hours paddling: R 450/£35 per person

Overnighters:           

Riverside tented camp: R 850.00/£60 per person

Dorm style accommodation: R 850.00/£60 per person

Up market mountain/river house: R 995/£70 per person         

Extras:

We offer a guided hike to the Bainskloof waterfalls on the morning after the overnight trip that includes a full fry up breakfast: R 50, 00/£5 per person

Transport:

Return to Cape Town: R200, 00/£15 per person

All prices are subject to currency movements and will be fixed at time of booking
